Local Sales Tax Election Called for November 3, 2009 for ESD #2

The Ellis County Emergency Services District (ESD) #2 Board of Emergency Commissioners has called an election for November 3, 2009. The election is for ESD #2 voters to vote yes or no for a proposition that states:

“The adoption of a local sales and use tax in Ellis County Emergency Services District No. 2 at the rate of one and three quarter percent.”

This proposed local sales and use tax of 1.75% would be added to the current state sales and use tax rate of 6.25%. If approved, this new sales and use tax rate of 8% would take effect on April 1, 2010. The sales and use tax rate for the Cities of Midlothian, Cedar Hill, Mansfield, Waxahachie, Red Oak, Glenn Heights, and Grand Prairie is 8.25%. The City of Ovilla current tax rate is 8%.

If approved by the ESD #2 voters, the sales tax receipts will fund a property tax rate reduction and fund an ESD #2 Fire and EMS service and emergency preparedness upgrade plan. A copy of this plan may be viewed below.
